PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent developer from going to waste by setting a predetermined phase difference in the period of the cleaning operation of a cleaning member for periodically cleaning a window on a plurality of optical paths for detecting the remaining amount of the developer, thereby accurately detecting the remaining amount of the developer, even when the distribution of the developer stored in a storage section is uneven. SOLUTION: A developing device includes: the storage section which stores the developer; the plurality of optical paths which are the optical path of detection light for detecting the remaining amount of the developer and pass through inside the storage section; the window which is formed in the wall surface of the storage section, so as to form the optical path and through which the detection light passes; a rotating body which is stored in the storage section; and the cleaning member which is disposed on the same rotating shaft as the rotating body and is for cleaning the window. The cleaning member is disposed in each optical path and cuts off or opens each optical path with a predetermined phase difference by the rotation of the rotating body.
