The method is for manufacturing an armour piercing penetrator which employs a steel sleeve (3) and a heavy metal core (2). The steel sleeve is heated to a temperature of between seventy and three hundred and fifty degrees Centigrade and the polished core is positioned inside the sleeve. The sleeve is then cooled to cause a shrinkage onto the core and provide a preload. The sleeve and core can also be glued together.
