PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder capable of efficiently using the arithmetic capability of a CPU. SOLUTION: The encoder is provided with: a coefficient table storing part 6 for storing coefficient data 5; registers 1a to 1d having bitwidth being an integer-multiple of the number of bits of an information symbol 11; a data inputting part 9 for inputting the information symbol 11 to the registers 1a to 1d; a data outputting pat 2 for outputting data from the register 1d; an address designating part 4 for designating the coefficient data 5 to be used to encode the information symbol 11 stored in the registers 1a to 1d on the basis of the data output from the register 1d by the data outputting part 2; and an exclusive OR computing element 3 for performing an exclusive OR operation of the coefficient data 5 designated by the address designating part 4 and the information symbol 11 stored in the registers 1a to 1d to obtain encoded data of the information symbol 11.
