<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method by which a retardation film having a large tilt angle and a small retardation change in a hot environment can be obtained with satisfactory productivity. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a retardation film including a tilt-aligned liquid crystal cured layer includes: a step A of applying a liquid crystal composition comprising a solvent and one or more polymerizable liquid crystal compounds on an aligned surface of an aligned substrate to form a coating layer; a step B of drying the coating layer to form a tilt-aligned liquid crystal solidified layer; and a step C of irradiating a surface of the liquid crystal solidified layer with ultraviolet radiation so that the surface temperature of the liquid crystal solidified layer becomes ≤50°C and a dose on the surface of the liquid crystal solidified layer at 365 nm wavelength of ≤100 mJ/cm<SP>2</SP>, and then irradiating the surface of the liquid crystal solidified layer with ultraviolet radiation so that a dose on the surface at 365 nm wavelength of ≥600 mJ/cm<SP>2</SP>, thereby forming a tilt-aligned liquid crystal cured layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
