PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a conjugated aromatic compound without receiving a steric influence of its substituent. SOLUTION: This method for producing the conjugated aromatic compound is provided by reacting an aromatic compound (1) expressed by formula (1) [wherein, R is an alkyl, an alkoxy or the like; X is Cl, Br or I; and (n) is 0 or 1] with the aromatic compound same as the aromatic compound (1) or reacting an aromatic compound (1) with the aromatic compound different from the aromatic compound (1) and having 1 or 2 chlorine, bromine or iodine atoms bonding with its aromatic ring under the following conditions. [The conditions] Using a catalytic amount of a nickel compound. Performing a coupling reaction in the simultaneous presence of a bidentate phosphorus ligand expressed by formula (2) [wherein, B is a ferrocene-1,1'-diyl group; and Ar is an aryl group which may be substituted by one or a multiple number of groups selected from the group consisting of F, trifluoromethyl and an alkoxy group] and zinc.
