The compounds of the formula (I), where R<SUB>1</SUB> is a radical of a lateral chain of a natural aminoacid; and R<SUB>2</SUB> is a C-radical derived from one of the known 1-5 ring systems; the rings being aromatic, isolated or partly/totally fused and having 5-6 members; each member being independently selected from C, CH, N, NH, O and S; one or more hydrogen atoms of these members being optionally replaced by substitutes selected from (C<SUB>1</SUB>C<SUB>6</SUB>)- alkyl and (C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>6</SUB>)-alkoxyl; NH<SUB>2</SUB>; F, Cl, Br; COOM where M is an alkaline or alkaline earth metal; and OH; n is 0 or 1; m is a whole number between 1 and 2; the fluorescent sensors are selective for citrate/citric acid and provide an improved detection limit.
