<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque estimating method for a motor including an internal permanent magnet. <P>SOLUTION: The method includes steps 110, 120 of measuring currents and voltages coupled to the motor including the internal permanent magnet (using either a physical sensor or a virtual software alternative means), and determining a reactive power in response to the measured current and voltage. Further, the method includes steps 130, 140 of estimating a first magnetic flux orthogonal to the axis of the internal permanent magnet motor, and estimating a second magnetic flux aligned on the axis of the internal permanent magnet motor.
