PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp having a structure capable of maintaining a function as an adjacent conductor over a long period of time by suppressing deterioration in the degree of adhesion to the outer surface of a light-emitting tube which occurs owing to the repeated expansion and contraction of the light-emitting tube by repeated operations of turning-on and turning-off. SOLUTION: The high-pressure discharge lamp comprises: the light-emitting tube 1; a pair of electrodes 27 supported inside both ends of the light-emitting tube, respectively, and having an electrode rod 25 and a coil 26 wound around the tip thereof; a starting device connected in parallel with the pair of electrodes of the light-emitting tube; a start assisting conductor 31 formed of a wire extended and disposed in the axial direction of the light-emitting tube along the outer surface thereof; and an outer tube glass bulb 16 in which the light-emitting tube, the starting device, and the start assisting conductor are housed and of which the one end is sealed by a glass stem 17. The start assisting conductor is wound around the light-emitting tube to form a closed loop 32 at least at one end, and in a part of the closed loop, an intersection part 33 is formed by pinching one part of the start assisting conductor between the other part of the start assisting conductor and the outer surface of the light-emitting tube.
