PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermittent backwashing method and a filtering apparatus therefor with excellent filtering of dirty liquid and intermittent backwashing. SOLUTION: The intermittent backwashing method and the filtering apparatus therefor are characterized in that a filter element is set in a cyclone type dirty chamber with a conical lower part, dirty liquid is introduced from the tangential direction of the cyclone type dirty chamber while causing a cyclone flow, a backwashing air storage chamber and a backwashing liquid storage chamber are provided at the upper part of a filtering apparatus body. The backwashing liquid is sprayed in an instant to the filter element by compressed air through a minimum pipe diameter to prevent clogging of the filter element, by the air compression force sufficient for generating an instant explosive force by the compressed air in the backwashing air storage chamber and backwashing liquid storage chamber.
