SPACER AND METHOD OF MOUNTING THE SAME

To provide a spacer surely mountable on a thin work and a method of mounting the spacer. The spacer comprises a head part (2) having an outer peripheral portion on which uneven portions (2a) are formed and a shaft part (3) provided with a hollow hole (3a) into which a tapping screw can be screwed. The spacer is mounted by press-fitting the head part (2) into the work (6). A caulking part (4) is provided between the head part (2) and the shaft part (3). The length (L0) between the head part (2) and the tip end of the caulking part (4) is equal to or longer than the length obtained by adding the amount of the deformation of the work (6) occurred due to the press-fitting of the head part (2) to the thickness (t1) of the work (6). Accordingly, as the head part (2) is press-fitted into the work (6), the caulking part can be surely caulked while catching the work (6) deformed in the press-fit direction.
