PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrophoretic dispersion liquid which facilitates separation of electrophoretic fine particles even at a low voltage, has high reflectance and contrast ratio, is excellent in display characteristics and has a memory property, and to obtain an image display device using the electrophoretic dispersion liquid. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic dispersion liquid, in which a plurality of fine particles are suspended, comprises: fine particles to which a polymer having reactive groups for surface functional groups on the fine particles are chemically connected or cross-linked; the polymer which exists by amount of 1 to 100 wt.% of the fine particles; at least carbon black fine particles; white fine particles; and non-polar solvent, wherein the carbon black has: a sulfur content of 0.5% or less; the sum of each element content of sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, silicon and chlorine of 1,000 ppm or less; the sum of each element content of iron, copper, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead and hexa-valent chromium of 50 ppm or less; a sulphate ion concentration of 100 ppm or less; a chloride ion concentration of 10 ppm or less; and a nitrate ion concentration of 10 ppm or less.
