PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide in particular an absorption type polarizer which is excellent in the light-resistance and can suppress generation of reflected light, while having substantially the same polarization characteristics as those of a conventional polarizers. SOLUTION: In three-dimensional orthogonal coordinates x, y and z, a plurality of island-like laminates absorbing light are formed, at a prescribed interval in X-axis and y-axis directions on a transparent substrate, expanding in the xy-plane direction. Each island-like laminate has a shape that is longer in the y-axis direction than in the x-axis direction, and two or more light-absorbing thin films are laminated in the z-axis direction at a prescribed interval.
