PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat slide device for a vehicle which has a to and fro slide mechanism capable of moving a seat part in a vehicle longitudinal direction and a lateral slide mechanism capable of moving the seat part in the lateral direction, has a vehicle member positioned in rear of one side end of the seat part when the seat part is moved to one end side of a lateral slide range by the lateral slide mechanism, and can promptly perform lateral movement when rearward movement is regulated by a to and fro movement regulating mechanism in the case where the lateral slide mechanism has a lateral lock mechanism for locking the seat part in a predetermined lateral position and a lateral lock operation part for operating the lateral lock mechanism and the to and fro movement regulating mechanism is provided. SOLUTION: The seat slide device for the vehicle is provided with a forced lock release means 104 for releasing the lock by the lateral lock mechanism 80 when rearward movement of the seat part 40 is regulated by a to and fro movement regulating means 100 in the lock state by the lateral lock mechanism 80.
