A die (1) for molding a honeycomb segment has an introduction section (3) provided on the introduction surface (8) side and having back holes (7) and also has a molding section (2) provided on the molding surface (4) side and having formed in it slits (6) communicating with the back holes (7). The outer periphery of the molding section (2) has a polygonal shape. Clay to be molded that is introduced from the back holes (7) provided in the introduction section (3) is forced through the slits (6) in the molding section (2) to mold a prismatic column-like honeycomb segment. The distance (L1) between adjacent slits (6) formed in each corner portion (11) including a vertex of the polygonal molding section (2) is greater than the distance (L2) between adjacent slits (6) formed in a center portion (12) of the molding section (2). The die (1) can produce a honeycomb segment having high compression strength.
