<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a failure in rotation position sensors 18, 19 by a simple logic without requiring a microcomputer dedicated to monitoring. <P>SOLUTION: A common rotary shaft 16 for rotating a wheel of an electric automobile is driven by a pair of motors 12, 13, the positions of rotation of the motors are respectively detected by the individual rotational position sensors 18, 19 of resolvers, based on an output of each rotational position sensor, by an individual rotational speed detection means, rotational speeds N1, N2 are respectively detected. A subtraction means obtains a difference between rotational speeds N1, N2 of each motor detected by arithmetic operation by a rotational speed detection means, a comparison means compares this difference with a predetermined value N0.
