PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing density unevenness in an image, irrespective of the surface tilt of a polygon mirror and a variation in light beam amount. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with laser scanning units that are independently driven so as to form Y, M, C and K images. "A" is the number obtained by multiplying the number of surfaces of the polygon mirror of the laser scanning unit for forming each of Y, M and C images by the number of beams. "B" is the number obtained by multiplying the number of surfaces of the polygon mirror of the laser scanning unit for forming the K image by the number of beams. A and B are coprime. For example, A is 5, and B is 16, then, the density unevenness periodically appears in the four-color composite image every 80 lines.
