PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where a uniform lubricant layer is formed on an image carrier, and the transferability and cleanability of toner on the image carrier are satisfactory improved. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: a first blade 71 cleaning residual toner after transfer in the surface of an intermediate transfer body 10; a coating brush 76 located at the downstream of the first blade, scraping off a solid lubricant 75 and coating the surface of the intermediate transfer body 10 therewith; and a second blade 73 located at the downstream of the coating brush 76 and leveling the lubricant coated on the surface of the intermediate transfer body 10. Provided that the length in the axial direction of the first blade is defined as L1, the length in the axial direction of the coating brush is defined as L2, the length in the axial direction of the solid lubricant is defined as L3 and the length in the axial direction of the second blade is defined as L4, the relation of L1≥L2>L3>L4 is satisfied.
