PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping apparatus capable of being easily manufactured while effectively damping shaking of an earthquake. SOLUTION: The damping apparatus causes a support member 21 and a supported member 22 to be subjected to a first predetermined direction relative movement occurring due to the earthquake to prevent destruction of the support member and the supported member. The damping apparatus is provided with an upper bracket 4 capable of being fixed to one of the support member and the supported member, and a lower bracket 5 capable of being fixed to the other of the support member and the supported member while being apart from the upper bracket member in a second predetermined direction perpendicular to the first predetermined direction, and coupling means for coupling the upper bracket and the lower bracket to each other. The coupling means extends along the second predetermined direction so as to correspond to the upper bracket and the lower bracket, respectively, couples the upper bracket and the lower bracket to each other, and has at least one support link adapted to be curvature-deformed in response to the first predetermined direction relative movement between the upper bracket and the lower bracket.
