PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing turbo lag. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 100 is provided with: an internal combustion engine 10; a supercharger 40 driven by supply of exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine 10 to a drive side and discharging the supplied exhaust gas to a downstream side; an assist means 60 assisting drive of the supercharger 40 by supplying assist gas heated by heat of the exhaust gas discharged to the downstream side of the supercharger 40 to the drive side of the supercharger 40; a determination means 70 for determining whether load of the internal combustion engine 10 increase or not; and a control means 70 controlling the assist means 60 to assist drive of the supercharger 40 when it is judged by the judgment means 70 that load of the internal combustion engine 10 increases.
