LIQUID CRYSTAL ELEMENT, AND OPTICAL HEAD DEVICE USING THE SAME

The object is to provide a liquid crystal element which has a liquid crystal stably aligned vertically on a substrate having a fine concave-convex structure having a depth of 0.5 µm on its surface, even when a blue laser beam and an alignment film produced by oblique deposition and having durability are employed. A liquid crystal element (10) is produced by: forming an alignment film of an inorganic oxide on the surface of electrodes (13, 14) arranged on substrates (11, 12), respectively, by oblique deposition; treating the surface of the alignment film with a fluorosilane coupling agent such as CF<SUB>3</SUB>(CF<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>7</SUB>-CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>-SiCl<SUB>3</SUB>; sealing the periphery of the two substrates (11, 12) with a seal (15); and filling a liquid crystal in the space formed by the sealing.
