A method for displaying picture on IM show frame of a client end, a system, a server and a client end are provided in the embodiment of the present invention, in which a URL address used for downloading thumbnail picture is created; wherein, the method includes: downloading a corresponding thumbnail picture according to the URL of the thumbnail picture; displaying the thumbnail picture on the IM show frame corresponding with the client end. In the present invention, more pictures are displayed on the IM show frame as far as possible under the circumstances of the client end has enough storage space.
