A device for electrostatically spraying pulverulent or liquid materials comprises a container 1 for the spray material, a carrier 4 extending into the material and operative to convey the material to a spraying zone, means for applying an electrostatic field across the spraying zone, and means for dislodging the spray material from the carrier so that it is readily transported by the electrostatic field. The carrier may be an endless belt of sheet material with a roughened surface, or a twisted, plaited or knotted fabric. The material may be dislodged from the carrier by strikers 7 acting directly against charging wires 6 or against intermediate permeable abutment 11, or by a current of air. The material 2 in reservoir 1 may be agitated by an upward current of air 3 or by an electromagnetic vibrator. A plurality of devices may be provided to ensure complete coverage.</p> |
