The present invention discloses a cable verification system (10) for tracing telecommunications cables (11) that extend between a remote site (12) and a local site (14). The system (10) comprises processing means at the remote site (12) for generating a tracing signal that is encoded with information on at least one of the cables (11) at the remote site (12), a bank of transmitters (16) located at the remote site (12) for injecting the at least one of the cables (11) with the tracing signal, a bank of receivers (18) located at the local site (14) for receiving the tracing signal on at least one of the cables (11), and processing means at the local site (14) for decoding the received tracing signal, so that a comparison can be made between the decoded cable information from the tracing signal and the cable (11) on which the tracing signal was received, to enable an end to end cable route to be determined. |
