The brush has a contact surface (12) supportable on a contact unit such as a collector. A bolt is pre-stressed by a coil spring arranged in a recess such as blind hole (16) closed by pad shaped covering units (22), where the carbon brush is lifted by the bolt during achieving of a preset wear of the contact units. The coil spring and the covering unit are provided as a pre-mounted unit. The spring unit is connected with the covering unit by clamping. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling carbon bushes.
