A plasma applicator comprising a microwave connector 180 to enable microwave power to be delivered into the device, an air filled coaxial line or waveguide containing a centre conductor 240 and an outer conductor 230, a gas feed line 470, a plurality of adjustable valves 231 — 234 to control the amount of gas, a high voltage generator 700 and a plurality of nozzles 132-134. The gas is converted into plasma in the waveguide, which transports both microwave energy and gas (or a mixture of gases), and the plasma is emitted in a controlled manner from the nozzles. The applicator may also comprise a plurality of tuning stubs or posts (fig 2b: 242 — 244) and a moveable end section (fig 3:940). The invention delivers a controlled stream of ionized gas to the surface of the human or animal body, or within the human or animal body, such that the area is sterilized. |
