A diffusion-absorption refrigerator system comprises a condenser pipe 16 passing through and surrounded by a heatsink 11. The heatsink comprises a sealed enclosure, defining an internal cavity surrounding the condenser pipe, for containing a heat transfer liquid. A cross-section of the heatsink, transverse across the condenser pipe, tapers to a minimum thickness towards an upper end when the refrigerator system is oriented for use. The heatsink may be shaped in the form of a wing or teardrop shape having a uniform cross-section with a rounded lower end and a tapering upper end. Preferably, the shape of the heatsink encourages convective flow in the liquid (17, fig.2) surrounding the hot condenser pipe and provides the further thermal benefit from convective flow of air around the outside of the heatsink, thereby improving heat dissipation The heatsink may include a filling point 18 for introducing a heat transfer liquid, such as water or water-glycol mixture, into the cavity. Preferably, the heatsink is attached to the condenser pipe by way of welding 7, gluing or other mechanical fixings. The refrigeration system may be used to cool temperature-sensitive electrical and electronic equipment, such as standby and backup batteries, housed within a temperature controlled enclosure. |
