A crawler traction device (1) for a crawler vehicle (2), in particular a tractor, the device (1) having a carriage (3), a drive sprocket (8) rotating about a first axis (9), an idler wheel (10) rotating about a second axis (11) parallel to the first axis (9), a track (12) looped about the drive sprocket (8) and the idler wheel (10) and meshing with the drive sprocket (8) along a meshing arc, and a noise and vibration damping device (26) having at least one roller (37, 37a, 37b) which rotates about an axis (38, 38a, 38b) parallel to the second axis (11), is eccentric with respect to the idler wheel (10), is smaller in diameter than the idler wheel (10), and only cooperates with the track (12) along an initial portion of the winding arc of the track (12) about the idler wheel (10). Alternatively, the idler wheel (10) may be replaced in its entirety by the roller (37).
