Cephalosporin cpds: (I) R1,R2 = H, monovalent hydrocarbon or C-bound heterocyclic gp. opt. substd. or R1 + R2 = divalent hydrocarbon gp. opt. interrupted by hetero atoms and/or substd. R3 = OH opt. esterified in which ester O atoms opt. replaced by S, carbamoyloxy opt. N-substd. and with O replaced by S, guanylthio, alpha-iminoalkylthio, alpha-iminoaralkylthio, a s-, t- or quat.-amino gp., SH opt. etherified, azide or thiosulphate gp. R4 = OH or R3+R4 = -O- and salts, including inner salts in which R4 is negatively charged O atom and R3 contains positively charged N atom. Broad-spectrum antibacterials Dose: 500 mg./day in man.
