Two stage space time block coder comprising symbol selection multiplexer followed by gain multiplier

A group of symbols to be encoded within a given block are held in buffers, the outputs of which are connected to multiplexers. The multiplexers then select one of the symbols according to a selection sub-matrix. The selected symbol is then fed to a multiplier where a gain is applied according to a gain sub-matrix. The processed symbol is then output. The decoder is similarly implemented with a two stage select then gain arrangement (See Fig. 6). The system allows space time block coding (STBC) to be carried out with an efficient circuit implementation.
