<p>High-tension cable with paper- or plastics-insulated cores has a sheath of a thermoplastic or thermoelastic plastics, e.g. P.V.C. or polythylene, which is reinforced with non-metallic cords, ribbons, plaits or webs, pref. consisting of glass fibre- or whisker-reinforced plastics, or glass fibre yarn. The sheath is produced by extruding a plastics tube, applying the reinforcement while the tube is still soft, and extruding a second layer to cover the reinforcement. The cable sheath withstands interior pressure and/or tensile stresses.</p> |
