The method involves controlling the stopping of a heat engine if the speed of a vehicle represented by a curve (10) is greater than the upper threshold speed of the vehicle or equal to 15 kilometers per hour, where the vehicle is equipped with a non controlled mechanical gear box if a clutch pedal is released, gear box is at a dead point and the speed of the vehicle is less than threshold chosen in a range of preset speeds.
