WASHING MACHINE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to reduce the whole dehydration time by shortening unbalance reduction control time to balance the laundry. A control method for reducing the unbalance generated due to the unbalanced of laundry in a washing machine equipped with a drum and a motor is as follows. The drum is accelerated to the predetermined speed so that the laundry adheres to the inner wall of the drum. The motor current is sensed while accelerating the drum. The unbalanced state of laundry is determined based on the sensed motor current. The speed of the drum is controlled according to the decision result. The speed of the drum includes a first rotation speed where the laundry does not adhere to the inner wall of the drum, a second rotation speed is greater than the first rotation speed so that the laundry adheres to the inner wall of the drum, and a third rotation speed between the first and the second rotation speed at which the laundry begins to adhere to the inner wall of the drum.
