The present invention discloses an edge-lit panel for emergency lighting usi ng dual mode illumination. The panel includes active lighting by the own light source of the equipment and passive lighting by photo-luminescent pigments coated on vario us surfaces of the panel. Thus, this edge-lit panel provides an improved and extended visibilit y of electrically energized edge-lit emergency signs during power failures.
