[Also in Divisions C1 and C7] An anode useful in an acidic electrolytic solution is produced by compression shaping powders of MxWO 3 ,MxTiO 2 ,MxTiO 3 , MxMnO 2 , MxXbO 3 , MxTaO 3 , MxPt 3 O 4 , MxPd 3 O 4 or MxV 2 O 5 where M is one of Li, K, Na, Cu, Ag, Pb, Tl, Th, Rb and Sr and x is a number above 0 and below 1. The electrode may then be sintered in an inert gas. Alternatively the electrode may be formed by vapour depositing one of the above compounds on to an electrode plate. A catalytic metal, e.g. Pt, Pd, Ir, Rh, or Ag maybe electrodeposited on the metal. The anode may be used in an acidic methanol fuel cell. |
