A method for filtering message receipt alarms in a mobile communication terminal is provided to perform a receipt alarm function only when a message received in the terminal of a user is messages which the user wants. A user selects "receipt alarm filtering On" on a "receipt alarm setup" menu(S201). When a "receipt alarm number" menu is selected, a controller determines whether a receipt alarm phone number pre-registered by the user exists(S202). If not, the controller displays a receipt alarm input screen for the user(S203). If the user selects an OK menu after inputting a desired receipt alarm phone number, the controller registers the receipt alarm phone number in a receipt alarm phone number list(S204).
