A method for allocating a radio resource in a wireless communication system is provided to harmonize trade off between overhead according to wireless resource allocation by allocating the wireless resource to variable size and number of wireless resources. A sub frame includes a plurality of OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) symbols and a plurality of sub channels. The sub frame is divided into a variable size region and a variable number region. The variable number region includes a plurality of resources having a specific size as a unit for allocation radio resource. The variable size region includes at least one resource region having variable size as a unit for allocating the radio resource.
