Filter for tobacco smoke, motor-car exhaust gases industrial stack effluents etc contains OsO4 on a carrier. The filter may also comprise a section(s) containing a reducing agent. Toxic properties of smoke are diminished. Some carcinogenic substances contained in tobacco smoke are converted into noncarcinogenic products.
