PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a navigation device and a route guide method which are capable of performing navigation so as to be in time for the expected arrival time, and are superior in user-friendliness. SOLUTION: A portable NV device 1 to be mounted detachably on a vehicle CA1, finds the present position of the vehicle CA1 on the basis of information from a satellite; sets an arrival route from the present position as a place of departure and a destination; finds an expected time of arrival expected when the vehicle CA1 travels through the arrival route; detects a detachment of the NV device 1 from a cradle 4 of the vehicle CA1; estimates a remaining required time from the place of its detection up to the destination, finds a restart scheduled time, by subtracting the remaining required time from the estimated arrival time; and issues a predetermined alarm for urging a restart, when it is recognized that the present time has reached a predetermined time before the scheduled restart time.
