PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viewing angle control element having a high switching effect between a wide viewing angle and a narrow viewing angle and to provide a liquid crystal display device applicable to various use environments and intended purposes by using the element. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a display liquid crystal cell 1 and a viewing angle control liquid crystal cell 2 including a pair of substrates 61, 62, a liquid crystal layer 65 comprising hybrid-aligned liquid crystal molecules held between the pair of substrates, and a pair of electrodes 63, 64 for applying an electric field to the liquid crystal layer. The viewing angle of the display liquid crystal cell 1 is controlled by changing an alignment state of the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 65 by a voltage applied.
