PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of shock during acceleration without deteriorating acceleration response in a control device for a vehicle drive unit. SOLUTION: When torque increase is requested, output torque of a vehicle drive unit is increased toward a target output torque by changing controlled variables of one or a plurality of specific controlled elements. Torque gradient when controlled variables of the specific controlled elements are changed is estimated and calculated based on present torque of the vehicle drive unit using a calculation rule created beforehand. The controlled variable of each controlled element including the specific controlled elements is set to make estimated torque gradient coincident with a predetermined target torque gradient.
