PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which can exhibit excellent starting performance even if a wiring length is long. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device is provided with a power storage circuit 32 in which a power storage coil 34 and a power storage capacitor 36 are connected in series and a two-way switching means 38 which is connected in series between the power storage coil 34 side of the power storage circuit 32 and a primary winding 30a of a pulse generating coil 30. A gate of the two-way switching means 38 is turned on when the power storage circuit side voltage reaches near the voltage at the time of non-loading, and the power stored in the power storage circuit 32 is supplied to the primary winding 30a.
