<p>Polypropylene which is modified by the addition of basic organic nitrogen cpds. is dyed by means of dyes which contain an -SO3CH3 group. There are obtained strong dyeings, resistant to wet treatment, soap, dry cleaning with trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene, and sublimation. These are of the formula:- where X and Z are -SO3CH3, alkyl, NO2, halogen, carboxyl, H, alkoxy, dialkylamino, aryl or alkylamino; Y is the same as Z or is -N=N-C6H4R-, where R is H, -SO3CH3, alkyl, alkoxy, NO2 or halogen; at least one of X, Y and Z is -SO3CH3. Preferred dyes have the formula:- where A is -N=N- or -NH-, and B and C are diferent and are -SO3CH3, H or dialkylamino, one being -SO3CH3.</p> |
