A plasma display panel has a first substrate and a second substrate opposed to each other. Electrodes for generating electric discharge are formed on the first substrate, and partition walls for separating electrical discharge spaces are formed integrally with the second substrate. An image display area is formed by the electrical discharge spaces formed between the partition walls. A frame-like groove is formed in the outer peripheral part of the display area of the second substrate so as to be integral with the second substrate. A seal material for bonding the second substrate to the first substrate is placed in the groove. Since the seal material is placed in the groove, gaps between the partition walls and the front substrate can be reduced. Consequently, erroneous electric discharge between adjacent cells can be prevented.
