A natural gas liquefaction plant that while effecting cost reduction, can realize over-load driving of gas turbine power generator and attains stabilization of plant power source and accordingly stabilization of plant operation; and a method of operating the same. There is provided a natural gas liquefaction plant including natural gas liquefaction equipment (68) equipped with refrigeration cycle lines (60,61) and adapted to cool purified natural gas to thereby attain liquefaction thereof and power generation equipment (71) for supplying electric power to electric motors (65,5) of the refrigeration cycle lines (60,61), which natural gas liquefaction plant further comprises supply line (85) for supplying nitrogen or carbon dioxide obtained in the purification stage of natural gas through valves (79,79a-79e) to gas turbine power generators (72a-72e); control unit (81) adapted to, for example, when gas turbine power generator (72a) falls into operation stoppage, open valves (79,79b-79d) of the supply line (85) so as to supply nitrogen or carbon dioxide to continuously operating gas turbine power generators (72b-72d), thereby realizing over-load driving of the continuously operating gas turbine power generators (72b-72d); etc.
