PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device and its manufacturing method capable of significantly improving reliability by suppressing display failures due to residual impurity ions or an uncured component of a seal material. SOLUTION: When forming an orientation film by applying an orientation material on surfaces of a CF substrate and a TFT substrate constituting a liquid crystal panel, the orientation film 6 is formed so as to cover at least a display area in which pixels are arranged in a matrix. A porous orientation film 7 having a porous film structure having higher impurity adsorption properties than those of the orientation film 6 is formed between an area outside the orientation film 6, for example, between the display area and a seal area encompassed by the seal member 4. Thus, contaminants such as the residual impurity ions from the seal member 4 and the uncured component of the seal member 4 are effectively adsorbed by the porous orientation film 7 outside the display area so that the contaminants do not intrude into the display area and are not fixed thereto.
