PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device capable of performing vertical decimation or vertical thinning and horizontal decimation for signal electric charges. SOLUTION: The solid-state image pickup device is characterized in that it includes: a photoelectric conversion part 12 for photoelectrically converting an incident light; a vertical charge transferring part 13 for transferring signal charges, read out from the photoelectric conversion part 12, in the vertical direction; a horizontal charge transferring part 15 for transferring signal charges output from the vertical charge transferring part 13, in the horizontal direction; and a horizontal overflow drain 22 for sweeping out unwanted signal charges in the horizontal charge transferring part 15 through a horizontal overflow gate 21, wherein a gate electrode of the horizontal overflow gate 21 is shared with transferring electrodes H1, H3 of the horizontal charge transferring part 15, a gate electrode H2' of the horizontal overflow gate 21 corresponding to the transferring electrode H2 of at least a single phase horizontal charge transferring part 15 and the transferring electrode H2 of the horizontal charge transferring part 15 are independently formed.
