PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably and accurately count bankbooks even if there is projection or sinking in the bank books stored in a bankbook cassette. SOLUTION: In this bankbook counting device counting the bankbooks 2 overlappingly stored in the bankbook cassette 1 installed in a bankbook issuing machine, a seam side portion of the bankbook 1 is photographed from a side face direction by an image sensor module 7 provided on one side of the bankbook cassette 1, moving in an alignment direction of the bankbooks 2 to acquire an image of each bankbook seam side portion, and the number of the bankbooks 2 is counted from a shape of each bankbook 2 in the image of the acquired seam side portion.
