PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ether from corresponding carboxylic acid ester or lactone as a raw material in one step by using an inexpensive catalyst easily available from the market. SOLUTION: An ether is produced from a corresponding carboxylic acid or lactone by using indium bromide as a catalyst and a silane compound expressed by chemical formula (1) (wherein, R1, R2and R3are each selected from the same or different functional groups or atoms) as a reducing agent.
