PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image reading system capable of efficiently performing a calculation for quality evaluation without disturbing other general photographing works, and an evaluating method of an image reader. SOLUTION: According to the radiation image reading system 1, a console 40 associates information required to retrieve image data, such as a device ID for having read image data that are photographed for QC and read, a cassette ID used for photographing, read time information and QC identification information with the image data and store them in an HDD 48. When the device ID of a reader to be an object of a QC calculation, a cassette ID of a cassette, an image type and the like are selected, a console 40a mounting a program for a QC calculation transmits a retrieval request for image data that coincides with the selected conditions to each console 40, and when image data are received from any console 40, the console 40a executes QC calculation processing and displays obtained evaluation result values and judgement results in a displaying part 43.
