PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which has superior power of video expression. SOLUTION: The image display device includes: a parameter extraction part 32 which extracts, on the basis of an image signal, a lightness control signal characterizing the lightness of an image for each unit time; and a comparator 33 which determines a dimming coefficient and an expansion coefficient for a dimming process and an expanding process on the basis of a change in the image parameters extracted by the parameter extraction part 32. The comparator 33 limits the quantities of changes in the dimming coefficient and expansion coefficient for each unit time to, for example,≤5%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
